When his testimony was due to begin, suspended Crime Intelligence deputy head Major-General Feroz Khan remained in a critical condition at Milpark Hospital - sedated and unable to speak, his lawyers said - after being shot in an apparent assassination attempt outside his Houghton home on 28 June 2026. His legal team instead pressed an application, filed at 11:04pm on the night he was shot, to have parts of his evidence heard in camera on intelligence-sensitivity grounds.
